OKÓRITAN®, the millennial wood of the Japanese oak called Hakutan, is harvested by local artisans and transformed on the base of ancient methods handed down for centuries and generations.
WHAT’S OKÓRITAN
The fragments of this special wood are transformed into coal through a ritual which pro-vides the very short cooking inside a wood oven built strictly by hand. Very high tempera-tures allow the carbon to be caught in the wood through a natural pyrolysis process. From the last step comes the name of white coal. To quickly stop burning, the coal is thrown into a soft white ashes which temporarily trans-forms its typical appearance..
